We here at S & K Buick GMC, serving the greater Springfield, IL area, love sharing news about the new GMC models that we carry. That said, today we have some rather exciting info to share with you in regards to the plant where the GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL are produced.
General Motors is planning to invest even more than it already has in their Arlington, Texas plant, which produces GMT900 full-size SUV models (also includes Suburban and Escalade models). The American automaker has previously devoted just over $500 million to expand and retool the plant in preparation of its next generation of full-size SUV models. Now, their latest investment is more geared towards the increased demand that they'll generate.
And how will they address that, you ask? Simple: by adding a third shift and around 800 jobs to the Arlington plant starting next year. This move comes not only as a good sign for the local economy surrounding the plant, but for those who already work there as well. See, since 2009, the plant's roughly 2,200 workers have been pulling overtime shifts to keep up with demand. This latest move not only increases the output of the plant to even greater levels than before, but will also provide some level of relief to the workers who've been putting in hours of overtime.
Of course, in the end, the part that we here at S & K Buick GMC are more excited for is simply having more GMC models to offer here at 1400 S Dirksen Pkwy. That said, we invite you to stay tuned for more on this and other exciting developments from GMC.
